I’ll come to Starbucks to Notarize your documents – The Coffee is on me!

Sometimes it’s not always convenient to meet my clients at their home or office – they have busy schedules and who doesn’t enjoy a cup of coffee during the day for a quick pick me up?
My business service is is mobile so I’m happy to travel and meet you at a convenient place. I am also happy to come to your home or office but because of the sensitive nature of many of the documents I notarize, my client may not want to have their documents notarized in the presence of friends, family or co-workers, so finding a neutral location to meet is sometimes important

Do You Need a Document Notarized? I’ll Meet you at Peet’s Coffee!
Often times, I’ll get a call from a client looking to get a few documents notarized who will ask where
we can meet.
Because the basis of my business service is that I’m mobile and will travel, I suggest that I can meet them either at their home or office as long as they are within my ~20 mile travel radius. Because of the sensitive nature of many of the documents I notarize, the client may not want to have their documents notarized in the presence of friends, family or co-workers, so finding a neutral location to meet is sometimes important.

Check Fraud Scheme Hits Local Church
The one thing I really enjoy about my work as a mobile notary is never really knowing what sorts of problems or challenges my clients might bring to me on any given day. I recently received a call from a local church here in San Jose asking if I could come an notarize some documents provided by their bank.

Even Attorney’s Need A Notary Sometimes

Today was a busy day – my phone kept ringing off the hook with folks looking for a notary to come help them with their documents. It’s like that a lot in the mobile notary business – when it rains it pours! I’m not sure why this is – perhaps everyone was trying to finish up all their outstanding business before heading out to enjoy the 4th of July Holiday weekend? But what ever the case – I always try to help as many clients as I possibly can.

Loan Signing Agent
Anyone who owns a home knows that over the last 5 years interest rates have fallen to incredibly low levels not seen since the 1950’s. If you have a mortgage on your home, there’s a good chance you’ve worked with your mortgage broker to re-fi (re-finance) your mortgage to take advantage of these incredibly low rates.

Passed the California State Notary Exam!
After taking the 3 hour refresher course and the mandated 30 question State proctored Notary Public Exam on April 30th, I just received word today that I passed the test once again. Whew! While the California Notary Public exam isn’t exactly on the same level as the State Bar Exam or CPA test, it is a relief to be done with that part of the commission renewal process for another 4 years.

Placing Assets into a LLC
So you’ve decided to create an LLC to hold and protect your assets. Once you’ve formed your LLC you’ll need to move your assets into the LLC, thus changing the ownership of the asset from you as an individual, to the entity that is your LLC.
Real Estate
– If you plan to place Real Estate into your LLC you’ll likely use a Deed of Trust to change the formal ownership. This document will need to be signed and notarized by all parties who control an interest in the Real Estate affected.
Most other forms of property / assets can be placed into the LLC without the use of a notary. Legal Zoom.Com offers an informative article describing the process of moving assets to an LLC in more detail on their website.

California Requires Expanded Background Checks for Notary Public
All applicants appointed or reappointed as a notary public on or after January 1, 2008, must undergo a background check by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as the California Department of Justice.
In response to a massive increase in loan fraud, the State of California has implemented a number new requirements for commissioning of new and renewing California Notary Public agents.
As a previously commissioned California Notary Public, I am currently working my way through renewing my commission. As part of this process I now must submit to two finger print back ground checks as well as providing passport photos for my application.
Notary Requirements
This along with increased education requirements, should improve the overall integrity and effectiveness of all of the state’s Notary Public agents.
